LET'S ENCOURAGE OUR CHURCHES
and
BELIVE IN A WORLD WITHOUT ORPHANS
"today i was reading new words and 'prophesies' for 2013.
different churches and organizations worldwide send those out in december and
januari, as an encouragement for the new year. when i looked up the ones of the
past years (up to 2009) i noticed (again) that they are all the same. they
speak of this being the year of break through, change and new. also they speak
of wonderful promises that emphasize personal (and the church's) riches and
well being.
even though i believe God wants the best for us, I noticed as
well that none of them are about blessing the poor, the widows and the orphans.
none of them are about not spending money on an expensive sound system or new
building and in stead blessing the poor with food, a home etc. none of them
speak about being real, about loving those in need, about going the second mile
for people who are lonely or depressed. none of them speak about opening your
home for the destitute.
it really makes me feel sad. you may call me a rebel or think
that i'm against being church, but i'm not. yet things like this (and i know
that there are exceptions) make me angry and disgusted with how we portray the
God who loves the least and who came for the least. and of course we may enjoy
life and all that we have, but where are the words that challenge us to to
share by feeding the hungry and comfort the mourning?
i feel shaken and i feel challenged to put the thoughts above
into practice, more and more, day by day, step by step."
