HOME - MEETING WITH MANY AND MAKING PLANS - WORLD WITHOUT ORPHANS GROWS

WORLD WITHOUT ORPHANS...
Olga brings the message to Ohio

.... leadership is moving forward in mighty ways.  First, there was the creation of a strategic action plan from the first conference - a creation of partners, a facilitation team and full forward movement for casting the vision for the future.

Ruslan Maliuta is the international facilitator for WWO and many others are working tirelessly to see the dream become a reality.  Let me outline some of the LAMb and IHS involvement with this movement:

1.  We had four persons attend training at TBRI in Texas. They were trained in how to work with children and their families where psychological trauma has occurred.  The training ended on Friday.

2.  Olga - our Kyrgyzstan residential director and Dayspring Mom then traveled to Ohio to share with two different churches about the needs of the orphan and thank the supporters for their efforts in helping with Dayspring, Jeremiah House and Discovery.

3.  On Tuesday, we will be having a meeting in Columbus, Ohio with leaders of key ministries and churches coming from all over - including Ukraine.  We will be meeting to develop a model for working with graduating orphans and a model for delivering training and coaching to national (churches, ministries and NGO's) who are ready to take WWO to the next level.  We are working with Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO), Institute for Human Services (IHS), and World Without Orphans (WWO).

4. A comprehensive guide to helping churches in implementing strategies that are critical to the movement of WWO.  We will be presenting this guide in October at a conference in Thailand and planning session for WWO.  The guide is presently a draft and will not be revealed until the conference in October.  It was written by IHS Program Manager, Judy Rycus.  The formatting and preparation work for the conference was done by Ruslan Maliuta in Ukraine.  We are so excited to be working toward an implementation effort of HELPING!  AND WE ARE EVER MINDFUL OF HOW HELPING CAN HURT, if plans are not carefully put into place.

5.  Finding the team?  Lynn and Ruby in Kyrgyzstan for Christmas.  Then back to Kyrgyzstan in February till June.  Jayne and David traveling to Russia in the spring.   Glen and Paul in Nicaragua for a week in October.  And so much more we will have to report later.

6.  GOAL - keep Lynn and Ruby out of North America...want to help that happen?  We can tell you how.

WHEN A CHILD IS BORN IN YOUR HEART

THE INTERVIEW

After the training in Nickolaev, the local TV station did an interview, asking many questions.  "Can a person love a child that is not their own biological child?"  And how does one respond.  I remember a comment made by Terry Meussen of Orphan Promise - "A child can be either born in your tummy, or in your heart.  Adopted children are born in our hearts."

THANK YOU TERRY.

PUBLISHING AND DISTRIBUTING BOOKS
A SMALL LAMb ACTIVITY

and all accompanied with teaching and coaching

ON THIS MARATHON - WE DISTRIBUTED 130 COPIES OF THE BOOK 4
ATTACHMENT, SEPARATION AND PLACEMENT

This has been made possible due to the generosity of the Institute for Human Services, Columbus, Ohio.  The Institute wrote, sponsored the translation into Russian, coordinated and sponsored the publishing and we have distributed over 2,000 books - giving those persons working with children and families critical tools to help!

WOUNDED CHILDREN HEALING HOMES
We had this  book translated, and published over a year ago - and distributed over 1000 copies.  This took our supply down to about 40 books.  Thanks to Emmanuel (Christian Broadcasting Network) Gift of Adoption, we were able to publish another 1,000.  And for this marathon we just distributed another big batch to those participating in our seminars.

TOGETHER FOREVER - 100 DISTRIBUTED ON OUR MARATHON
This book on marriage - the Biblical Blueprint was sponsored by Give First Ministries, Barrie, Ontario Canada.  This was a welcomed tool to over 50 families during these last 9 days.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

THE WORD IS OUT!
We thank all of you for making this possible
as the truth does not return void!

INDIA - WHERE THOSE WHO SERVE - KNOW THE MEANING OF SACRIFICE

INDIA
World Without Orphans in India was filled with moments of extremes.  Traveling and witnessing the growth in the cities, the many people, the exceptional kindness of everyone we met,  along side of the poverty and needs that were before us everyday, could not settle in our hearts without both sorrow and joy.

Our wonderful coordinators; Bobby, Sheela and Geeta were filled with joy and happiness to show us their city, their orphanage and conduct the conference they coordinated to bring leaders in their state together to better understand the plight of the orphan.

Yet, this one conference in this one city and state, seems like such a small strategy considering the enormous size of the country.  When hearing their plans - celebrating Orphan Sunday in November, planning to meet soon and discuss how the churches can work together on a plan to make a difference, we left knowing that THEY the nationals are mobilized to make a difference.  And they WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE - one child, one family at a time.

Ruslan and I were but a small piece of a very large picture - we were allowed to be a little spark -  to share our hearts with them and to then leave encouraging them knowing they will not rest - will not be complacent and WILL DO SOMETHING!

The beauty in India is seen  in all walks of life!

The contrast between old and new is piercing to the soul.

And a woman traveling alone is well protected by the India finest!

School children on the streets.

Transportation in many ways.

The conference - 190 plus participants from around the state of Andra Pradesh, India.

Ruslan in prayer for Bobbie, Sheela and Geeta - the coordinators.

Fitted and gifted with a sari from Bobbi, Sheela and Geeta.  My conference attire.

The contrasts - next to a lovely apartment building.

At the Trauma Training - each youth had a story.  All now in University.

INDIA - THE LAND OF MYSTERY AND INTRIGUE

INDIA – THE LAND OF MYSTERY AND INTRIGUE

INDIA WITOUT ORPHANS
Why mystery and intrigue?  Well when you have over 1 Billion people who have likely been abused – thinking of the children here you are confused, mystified in how to help. As the data says 1 out of 2 have experienced abuse.

UNICEF estimates there are over 11 million street children in India -

o 65.9% of the street children lived with their families on the streets. Out of these
children, 51.84% slept on the footpaths, 17.48% slept in night shelters and 30.67%
slept in other places including under flyovers and bridges, railway platforms, bus
stops, parks, market places.
o The overall incidence of physical abuse among street children, either by family
members or by others or both, was 66.8% across the states. Out of this, 54.62%
were boys and 45.38% were girls.
o On a study in India, out of the total number of child respondents reporting being
forced to touch private parts of the body, 17.73% were street children. 22.77%
reported having been sexually assaulted.

And statistics are very difficult to gather in India due to the serious problem of poverty and large population.

Yet, there is action - leaders who have taken up the cause and want to make a difference.  The conference and training are only a small step in the forward movement of this beautiful land and people.  After training on Wednesday with about 90 participants, there were many who wanted to talk…

“How do I even begin when the problem is so big?”
“I was one of those children who experienced bad trauma – I am okay now, but I have had problems. I want to help.”
“My co-workers won’t understand how to do things differently, how do I teach them?”
" I really want to adopt, but my extended family will not support this.  What do I do?"

Yes, India is a land of mystery.  Needed is support, encouragement, training and coaching to find new and more effective ways of working with children.

THEN THERE WAS/IS THE ORPHANAGE – ABODE OF PEACE

Children rescued off the streets.  Young, needy and so full of need to be loved and precious in the sight of a caring adult in their lives.  We felt drawn and pulled to help as the need is so great.  The family caring for these children are committed, they have sacrificed everything to do this work.

They have the children in the second floor of an unfinished building.   There are five floors in the building.  They occupy one.  There is one large room - where evertyhing takes place; school, bedroom together on the floors (there are no beds, they cannot afford them), eating, playing and even the presentation they did for us was in this room.  The children sang, danced, prayed and worshiped.  Our hearts melted with love and desire to make a little difference - to do something.

And there is much we might do with this one little idea – if only we can find some resources for them.

HERE IS THE CHALLENGE:  I am looking for a years worth of vitamins for 170 children.   Their resources are very limited – NO consistent funding for this orphanage and their costs are about $4500 per month.  $1500 salaries, $3000 operating costs....all coverning 25 staff (1/3 of whom are physicall or mentally disabled!) and 170 children.

Meals – every day based on faith!
Breakfast:  Rice with a milk/curd type “sauce”
Lunch:  Rice with the liquid Dal
Dinner:  Rice with Pepper water as a “sauce”

They use 60 kg of rice per day – costing about $40.00

TO GIVE MEANINGFUL HELP – MANY THINGS are needed, BUT TO START;  First we need the vitamins, getting them there, etc. We can get it to them in one of two ways.

1.   Someone helps us deliver TO them via a delivery service, military transport or mail OR
2.   We take a short term mission team over in the spring to India and hand deliver them and work alongside Abode for about a week to 10 days...with a team that is going to look at ways to continue helping this group of children and the workers who have committed to making a difference in Vizag.

WANT TO GO? You can ONLY if you will commit to making a difference.
What can capture your heart more than a child who just wants to know they are precious!
